Model Features
-
Side-Access Chain Tensioner
The side-access chain tensioner makes it much more convenient for the user to adjust the saw chain with a bar wrench as opposed to the typical location of the guide bar adjustment screw. -
Decompression Valve
The decompression valve, also referred to as 'deco' or 'deco valve', vents compression in the cylinder for easier starting. The decompression valve temporarily reduces the compression in the combustion chamber during cranking and helps reduce the effort needed to pull the starter rope. It is opened manually and closes automatically as soon as the engine fires. -

STIHL M-Tronic™
This product features M-Tronic™ (M) - a new generation of Intelligent Engine Management that eliminates the low and high speed carburetor adjustment screws, compensates for dirty air filter and changes in elevation and fuel quality for optimum engine power at all times.

Pre-Separation Air Filtration System
This time-saving technology boosts the efficiency of the engine’s filter system, doubling the time between air filter cleanings. Air drawn into the engine is first separated via centrifugal force, ejecting the heavier dirt particles before being routed to the air filter. This pre-separation means less dirt to be captured by the air filter, resulting in less frequent cleaning and maintenance. -
Toolless fuel and oil caps with retainers
Simply lift the lever and twist the caps to remove or tighten. There‘s no need to use a tool to tighten or loosen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Tom41 from This is a great saw for an old person that still enjoys working outside and has lots of wood to deal with. I am 76 years old and have lots of wood on our property. We also enjoy the features of a really nice fireplace. This saw, light, but powerful, and easy to start is perfect for me. I can run it for extended periods of time without the fatigue of my older 036 or 026. I also have a relatively new pruner saw, but find more times I just use the 241. Great saw if you can spend the few extra bucks for this pro model. And we burn as we choose with no rationing of the firewood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by hna1225 from Lightweight, easy to manuever powerhouse At my age, I decided that I needed to replace my heavyweight felling saw for something lighter in weight that could dependably handle tree felling and clearing on our tree farm. My local dealer convinced me that the STIHL MS 241 with a 16" bar would exceed my expectations. They could not have been more correct. I enjoy hearing its quiet authoritative power plant revving-up for the task of felling pole-sized trees, clearing trails, and cutting firewood. After hours of use, my back doesn't feel like it was run over by a herd of cattle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by LaneJ from Great Power To Weight I just have a few hours on this saw but am pleased with the performance. It is easy to start cold or warm, idles fine, great acceleration and power in the cut makes me feel I am running a larger chainsaw. I have been running the saw in SW PA at temperatures between 25 and 45 F ; using Stihl Moto mix.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Foxtrot from Unreliable This saw has spent more time in the shop than in service. The solenoid has been replaced twice, fuel filter once and other nonsense and still is not right. Stihl ignores my pleas for help. I have owned many saws and currently own two other Stihls but after my experience with Stihl and the 241, I will never by another Stihl product.

Rated 3 out of 5 by JohnW50 from Runs great, leaks a lot of bar oil I bought the MS 241 CM because I wanted high quality and a lighter weight saw due to shoulder issues. My previous saw was an inexpensive brand that I used for many years with no servicing except plugs and chains. I paid many times that amount for the Stihl saw. It runs very well, starts easily and cuts better than my old saw. The only problem is after usage it leak a lot of bar oil. After cleaning up a couple of oil messes, I started storing it on a plastic tray. I took it in a couple of times and was told this is "normal". The Stihl FAQ says .3 to .5oz is normal. I estimate it is at least 2oz in a puddle that empties the reservoir and requires wiping down the saw with a paper towel before using. So my recommendation is conflicted: It runs well and cuts better than my old saw, as long as you are OK with cleaning up the oil messes.

Rated 5 out of 5 by 1stsgt from My little buddy When i got the 241 last fall I thought it would just be another dullard Mtronic saw, like my MS-261CM. However it has become a real friend and useful tool. It generally cranks up in just a few pulls and has done everything I have asked of it. I even cranked it up in the middle of a snow storm last month to see how it behaved in a snow storm. I have cranked it up in temperatures in the teens and temperatures in the 90's and it behaves the same way regardless of the temperature, outside. What I like best is its light weight and ease of use in tight areas, like limbing and cutting off stumps close to the ground. The 3/8P and .050 chain allows me to use my MS-180C file guides with the 241 and it has the larger gage.050 chain for longer life. The 16 inch bar has not limited its use a bit because it has no problem cutting through 12 inch oak without a whimper. If i need a bigger saw, i just grab on of my 20 inch Stihl saws.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fordfan86 from GREAT SAW I bought this saw from a buddy about 10 months ago who barely used it. All i can say is this saw is amazing , it doesn't matter how cold it is it always starts and cuts great. It is very light, ergonomic, and easy to start. We cut firewood for heating our home and i had a cheaper saw that gave out and i had to replace it.
